Beginning Bonsai

Are you curious about the centuries-old Japanese tradition of bonsai? Discover the art of bonsai with local Colorado bonsai artists. Join us for a fun and informative class that explores the history, techniques, and common myths surrounding this living art form. In this hands-on experience, each participant will receive a tree, pot, wire, soil, and gravel—and leave with a finished bonsai to take home. The course content is designed by expert bonsai master and founder of Denver Botanic Garden's bonsai program, Hal Sasaki along with Denver Botanic Gardens Bonsai Garden curator and horticulturist Larry Jackel, ensuring personalized guidance and attention throughout.

Please note: The class supplies a Juniper procumbens. This tree requires full sun for most of the day and will not grow well as an indoor houseplant. Only the October class supplies an indoor / outdoor tropical species determined by the instructor.
